Przedstawiono problem krzywdzenia dzieci jako zjawiska społecznego, jego definicję, terminologię i interpretację. Zasygnalizowano próby oceny epidemiologii zjawiska oraz aktualną sytuację prawną w opiece nad dzieckiem w Polsce na tle Konwencji Praw Dziecka. Wskazano główne koncepcje wyjaśniające przyczyny zjawiska i kierunki prewencji.

The author discuss the problem of child abuse as a social phenomenon and presents its definition, terminology and interpretation. Trials of epidemiological assessment of this problem and the current legal status of child protection in Poland, in comparison to the Cart of Child  Laws, are also depicted. The conceptions that try to explain the reasons for child abuse and prevention trends are discussed.
