Obecnie istnieje wiele dowodów naukowych wskazujących na istotną rolę karmienia naturalnego w potęgowaniu zdrowia dziecka i matki, a także jego odległych, pozytywnych skutków zdrowotnych dla populacji dorosłych. Pomimo zalet, konsekwencje zdrowotne karmienia naturalnego nadal nie są wykorzystywane w sposób zadowalający, między innymi z uwagi na rutynowe, często nieuzasadnione odstawienia od piersi w czasie farmakoterapii matki. W niniejszej pracy autorzy dokonali krótkiej analizy bezpieczeństwa farmakoterapii w czasie karmienia piersią i przedstawili strategię redukcji ryzyka dla dziecka i wsparcia karmienia naturalnego w czasie farmakoterapii matki karmiącej.

Currently, there is a number of scientific studies pointing out the crucial role of natural feeding in strengthening the health of a child and a mother in addition to its further beneficial effects on the adult populations’ health. Despite the advantages, the health consequences of natural feeding are still not exploited at the satisfactory level, i.a. due to routine and often unjustified ablactation during pharmacotherapy of a mother. In this paper, the authors have performed the short analysis of safety of pharmacotherapy during breast-feeding period. Strategies of risk reduction for a child and supporting natural feeding during pharmacotherapy of a nursing mother have been introduced.
